Welcome to the Variable Density Thinning tour

Simply Easy Learning

This immersive tour app of the Variable Density Thinning study is a web-based application that you can run in your browser. It has been created with audio narration accompanying 360 degree photos taken at different locations and at different heights from the ground (6 feet and 27 feet, as well as above canopy drone images) in the Stanislaus-Tuolumne Experimental Forest. The tour takes 33 minutes but can be paused at any point. Below is a description of what you will need and how to start the tour.

What you will need:

We highly recommend that you use the Chrome browser to run the tour. If you opened this page in a different browser, please install Chrome and open it there instead. After that, please carefully read and follow the instructions before starting the experience.

If you are using a laptop, please make sure that your device is connected to a power source.

Please make sure that your computer's speaker is not muted, and adjust your volume to a level that you can comfortably hear.

Click on the three dots in Chrome and go to the Chrome Settings, then under the Advanced settings at the bottom, select System. Make sure the box next to "Use hardware acceleration when available" is checked. If it isn't, check it now.

A good internet connection is recommended due to the size, the initial loading time can take 10 minutes or more on slow internet connections.

We recommend an external mouse with a mouse wheel to make controlling the camera including zooming in and out as easy as possible.

Participation in the research study is voluntary. To participate you need to click the first button below ("I want to take the virtual tour and participate in the study"). If you are a student and have been offered to participate in this study for course credit and would like to do so, make sure you click the first button and to enter your email address and class information in the questionnaire we will give you. Also, it is important that participants continue filling out the questionnaire after going through the VR tour. The tab with the questionnaire will still be open in your browser once you exit the tour application. Participation in the study should only take an extra 15 minutes of your time.

Thank you in advance for participating in this study.
